Actor-danseuse Isha Sharvani is not too worried about her slo-mo Bollywood career, for she has her dancing to fall back on. The pretty babe, who was seen in reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, tours with her mother Daksha Sheth’s dance company. The troupe recently performed to their spectacular dance recital Shiva Shakti in the UK. Artistic photographer David de Souza captured vivid images of Isha in the play’s showing in India last December, and we reproduce some of them that we found on Facebook.
In each of her acts, Isha is grace personified – whether it’s the nude bodysuit she is using as a prop or the Mallakhamb pole or simply the water. She is elegant as she fights in the air hung on a rope, sword in hand – almost reminding us of Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. And just when we think she’s reached her limit, Isha surprises us by playing with fire!
Isha is an expert in Mallakhamb – a form of Indian gymnastics – and her dance takes a lot of moves from the sport. She is also trained in ballet, kathak, yoga, chhau, rope dancing and kalaripayattu. In fact, it was for these skills that she debuted in B-town with Subhash Ghai’s Kisna and then went on to do movies like Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance and Bejoy Nambiar’s David. What we would like is for Isha to act in a hardcore dance and martial arts movie that would give her a chance to display her skills even more. Wot say, dancer gal?
