Light-eyed Bong beauty Rani Mukherjee started her acting career at an early age of 18, with her father’s film ‘Biyar Phool’ (1996). She later made her Hindi film debut with ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’ in 1997.

Though the film bombed at the box office, her powerful performance in the role of a rape victim won her critical acclaim. It was her 1998 films ‘Ghulam’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ that really launched her career. She consolidated her stardom with blockbuster films such as ‘Saathiya’ (2002), ‘Veer Zaara’ (2004), and ‘Black’ (2005).

Post her 2009 flop ‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’, Rani has become quite choosy about her films.

Born to director Ram Mukherjee and playback singer Krishna, Rani was never keen on entering Bollywood.
Producer-turned-director Raja is Rani's brother. Her cousins Kajol, Ayan Mukherjee, Monish Bhel and Tanisha are also part of the film industry
Her first screen appearance was in her father’s film ‘Biyar Phool’ (1996) at the age of 18.
Rani graduated from Mumbai’s SNDT Women's University.
Rani was at her career peak during her early 20s but she also had her share of flop films between 1998 and 2001.
